There is always an appetite for the great words of wisdom from this saint of silent revolution.

I place before the readers – a few more of these pearls of wisdom in this third Post.

We do need to ponder over them, contemplate on them, and make them a part of our life.

1.   ONCE YOU HAVE ACCESS TO THE SOURCE OF CREATION WITHIN YOU, HEALTH AND WELL BEING WILL BE NATURAL; NOT SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVE TO ASTRIVE FOR.

2.   IF ONLY YOU CAN GO THROUGH DIFFICULT TIMES WITH AN INNER GRACE, YOU COULD SEE THAT EVERY SITUATION WE FACE IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO ENHANCE OUR LIVES.

3.   ONLY THAT PERSON WHO HAS LOST THE NEED FOR SECURITY IS REALLY SECURE.

4.   GRATITUDE IS NOT AN ATTITUDE.GRATITUDE IS SOMETHING THAT FLOWSOUT OF YOU WHEN YOU ARE OVERWHELMED BY WHAT HAS BEEN GIVEN TO YOU.

5.   ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE FOUND SOMETHING SO VALUABLE WITHIN YOUR SELF THAT EVERYTHING ELSE DOES NOT MEAN SO MUCH TO YOU ANY MORE, YOU CAN GIVE JOYFULLY.
6.   IF YOU WANT THE DIVINE TO BECOME ALIVE WITHIN YOU, FIRST OF ALL, YOU AS A HUMAN BEING, HAVE TO BECOME ABSOLUTELY ALIVE.

7.   IF YOU WANT EVERYBODY TO FALL IN LOVE WITH YOU, THE FIRST THING IS, YOU MUST FALL IN LOVE WITH ALL OF THEM.

8.   IF YOU BECOME THE SOURCE OF JOY  BY YOURSELF, YOU WILL HAVE WONDERFUL RELATIONSHIPS.

9.   HARMONY IN THE WORLD WILL HAPPEN ONLY WHEN MAN IS TRULY HARMONIOUS WITHIN HIMSELF.

10.                WITHOUT RAISING YOUR CONSCIOUSNESS, WHATEVER YOU DO IN THE WORLD, WILL ONLY LEAD TO MORE AND MORE SUFFERING.

11.                ONLY IF YOU ARE JOYFUL, YOU CAN BE FREE FROM THE FRUIT OF ACTION.

12.                INCLUSIVENSS IS NOT JUST THE FUNDAMENTAL NATURE OF THE SPIRITUAL PROCESS, BUT THE VERY BASIS AND GOAL OF LIFE ITSELF.

13.                ANY METHOD YOU EMPLOY TO HEIGHTEN THE PRESENCE OF THAT WHICH IS THE SOURCE OF CREATION WITHIN YOU, IS YOGA.

14.                LIFE IS AT EASE. ONLY THE MIND IS AT SOME TENSION.

15.                ONE WHO IS CONSTANTLY RESTING WITHIN HIMSELF, IS CAPABLE OF ENDLESS ACTIVITY.

16.                WHEN YOU LIVE FOR EVERYBODY, EVERYBODY TAKES CARE OF YOU.

17.                TO LIVE IS TO GIVE AND TO GIVE IS TO LIVE.

18.                BEING A YOGI MEANS THAT YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED THE ONENESS OF THE EXISTENCE.

19.                DHYANA IS TO TRANSCEND THE LIMITATIONS OF BODY AND MIND, TO BEGIN TO EXPERIENCE YOURSELF IN A MUCH DEEPER DIMENSION.

20.                THE VERY PURPOSE OF LIFE IS TO REACH THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE FLOWERING. DHYANA OR MEDITATION IS THE PATH TO FLOWERING.

WORDS OF WISDOM ON YOGA, THE GREATEST SCIENCE THERE IS!

YOGA
SOME GREAT QUOTES FROM
RENOWNED YOGA MASTERS

Yoga is many things for many people.

But, all these are Parts of Yoga ; Or, Paths of Yoga.

Lord Krishna expounded all paths of Yoga in  the "Bhagavad Gita" - which is a scientific treatise on Yoga.

Sage Patanjali wrote the "Yoga Sutras", detailing the Ashtanga Yoga , akin to Lord Krishna's Dhyana Yoga Chapter of Bhagavad Gita.

Yoga is also expounded brilliantly in many Upanishads and by many Yogis.

Currently, what is popularly taught as "YOGA" in many yoga schools is - Patanjali's Ashtanga Yoga -  or the eight limbs of yoga - and in it, specially 3 limbs, namely. Aasana, Pranayama and Dhyana.

These three limbs (or parts)  can not really be delinked from the other parts of Yoga like Yama, niyama etc (physical and mental discipline and cleanliness), which precede the Aasana limb or Part or from Pratyahara, Dharana and samadhi - which , along with Dhyana, are the last four parts or advanced stages of yoga.

Thus, the 8 Limbs of Ashtanga Yoga are

  1. Yama (Control)
  2. Niyama (Rules of Conduct)
  3. Asanas (Postures)
  4. Pranayama (Control of Life energy through Breath control))
  5. Pratyahara (Withdrawal of Sensory Perceptions)
  6. Dharana (Concentration)
  7. Dhyana (Mediation)
  8. Samadhi (Complete Equilibrium)

In whatever way yoga is being taught by experienced masters, it does bestow on the practitioner, great benefits, as clearly stated by Patanjali and Lord Krishna both.

I will first place before you a few quotable quotes on THE SCIENCE OF YOGA - which is the most perfect science by far, known to man. In future Posts, we will discuss details of the Ashtanga Yoga further.

  Words of Wisdom on Yoga

  • Yoga is the suspension of all the functions of the mind. (Sage Patanjali)
  • Yoga is that state of Absolute Peace wherein there is neither imagination nor thought. Yoga is control of mind and its modifications (Swami Sivananda)

  • Equanimity is Yoga. Serenity is Yoga. Skill in actions is Yoga. Control of the senses and the mind is Yoga. Anything by which the best and the highest in life can be attained is also Yoga. Yoga is thus all-embracing, all-inclusive and universal in its application leading to all-round development of body, mind and soul. (Swami Sivananda)

  • Lord Krishna says to Arjuna: “Howsoever men approach Me, even so do I reward them, for, the path men take from every side, is Mine, O Partha.” The four paths are: the path of work (Karma-Yoga), the path of devotion or love (Bhakti-Yoga), the path of psychic control (Raja-Yoga) and the path of self-analysis and knowledge (Jnana-Yoga). (Bhagavad Gita ).

  • Karma-Yoga is suitable for a man of active temperament; Bhakti-Yoga for a man of emotional temperament; Raja-Yoga for a man of mystic temperament; and the path of Jnana-Yoga or Vedanta for a man of will or reason. (Swami Sivananda)

  •  “A person is said to have achieved yoga, or the union with the Self, when the perfectly disciplined and subdued mind gets freedom from all desires, and becomes absorbed in the Self alone” (Bhagavad Gita)

  • “For the one who is moderate in eating, recreation, working, sleeping, and waking, this yoga (Dhyana Yoga) destroys all sorrow.”(Bhagavad Gita)

  • “Yoga is difficult for the one whose mind is not controlled.” (Bhagavad Gita)

  • “This yoga is not possible, for the one who eats too much, or who does not eat at all; who sleeps too much, or who keeps awake.” (Bhagavad Gita)

  • “In Karma-yoga no effort is ever lost, and there is no harm. Even a little practice of Karma yoga protects one from greatest of fears” (Bhagavad Gita)

  • “Work done with selfish motives is much inferior to selfless service - which is Karma-yoga. Therefore thou be a Karma-yogi, O Arjuna. People who want to enjoy the fruits of their work are always unhappy as  no one has  control over the results.” (Bhagavad Gita)

  • Undisturbed calmness of mind is attained by cultivating friendliness toward the happy, compassion for the unhappy, delight in the virtuous, and indifference toward the wicked. (The yoga sutras of Patanjali)

  • Anyone who practices can obtain success in yoga but not one who is lazy.  Constant practice alone is the secret of success. (Hatha Yoga Pradipika)

  • When the breath wanders the mind also is unsteady.  But when the breath is calmed the mind too will be still, and the yogi achieves long life. Therefore, one should learn to control the breath. (Hatha Yoga Pradipika)

  • Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured. ( B.K.S. Iyengar)

  • When you inhale, you are taking the strength from God.  When you exhale, it represents the service you are giving to the world.( B.K.S. Iyengar)

  • The body is your temple. Keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside in. (B.K.S Iyengar)

DO NOT BE SUSPICIOUS - WORDS OF WISDOM FROM SWAMI SIVANANDA

WORDS OF WISDOM
FROM
SWAMI SIVANANDA

Swami Sivananda was a versatile Yoga master and enlightened soul. His teachings have inspired several Great masters later and continue to inspire many more till today..

Here are some of his beautiful words of wisdom on suspicion :

  • Suspicion clouds the mind. It creates rupture among friends. It loses friends. It is a defect not in the heart, but in the brain.

  • Suspicion is the mark of a mean spirit and a base soul. A noble man suspects none.

  • Suspicion checks business, disposes kings or head of states to tyranny and irresolution, husbands to jealousy and hatred.

  • Freedom from suspicion promotes happiness in man. Suspicion is an enemy to happiness.
  •  Ignorance is the mother of suspicion. Attain knowledge. Suspicion will vanish.

  • Suspicion is the poison of true friendship.

  • If suspicion enters your mind, love and confidence will go out.

  • Suspicion among thoughts is like a bat among birds; They ever fly by twilight.

WORDS OF WISDOM = SRI SRI RAVI SHANKAR = GREAT QUOTES

WORDS OF WISDOM

FROM

His Holiness
Pujya Sri Sri Ravi Shankarji

Sri Sri, as he is affectionately called, is a Great spiritual master of our times with profound and positive effect on Millions of people across the world. His teachings are extraordinary and Unique.

He turned 55 on 13th May,2010. While praying God to bestow a long life on this Great saint of our times,  I also give below a few lines from some of his quotes and speeches – which the reader will find interesting and illuminating :

  • Enlightenment is the journey from head back to the heart, from words back to silence, to innocence in spite of your intelligence.

  • Our world is an energy field connected with thoughts. The thought which arises in us doesn’t get wasted; it goes round and round the world and comes back to us.

  • Action comes out of conscious decision. Reaction comes out of impulsiveness. Impulsiveness creates a chain of karma.
  • “One student at a renowned management institution asked Guruji, “What is the purpose of life?” Guruji smiled and responded that that was the “million-dollar question,” but one for which the student would have to search within himself to find the answer.  “Anyone who knows that will not tell you, and if anyone tries to tell you that he knows, he really doesn’t know,” Guruji said.

  • As a man, you never want to step on the emotions of the woman,” Guruji explained. “And as a woman, you do not want to step on the ego of the man"

  • A baby would have done all the yogasanas from birth to age 3 !

  • Seva should walk hand in hand with sadhana (spiritual practices). If one is absent, you will not gain anything from the other. From sadhana you get strength to do seva, and from seva you get depth in sadhana. But remember that sadhana is your first priority!

  • Your words, your dreams, and your thoughts have power to create conditions in your life.

  • Turn your thoughts and conversations around to be more positive and power-packed with faith, hope, love and action. Don’t be afraid to believe that you can have what you want and deserve. The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settle for.

  • Watch how your circumstances and situations begin to change when you change the way you speak.
  • It is an art to express our opinion in appreciable way. Those who possess this type of effective art of communication are unique in nature. To communicate affectionately with one and all is a skill worth possessing. Communicating without prejudice is vital for successful living.

  • There are only selfish or bad moments; there are no bad people in this world. They are ignorant. Inside every culprit is a victim crying for help. Feel compassionate for such people.

         An INWARD JOURNEY -

A mind that is in the present moment is meditation.

A mind that is calm, without hesitation and anticipation is meditation.

A mind that has become no mind, and has come back to its source is  meditation.

Bring the mind, which is all over the place, back to its source.

In meditation - your mind is alert, and all other organs are in deep rest.

Repose in the cool, calm, serene depth of your Being.

  • Do you think that meditation is deep concentration? Then you’re in for a surprise:

                           Meditation is de-concentration, letting go.

  •         To meditate:

Let go - of anger and events from the past
Let go - of desires and planning for the future

  • Meditation is accepting this moment, and living every moment totally with depth.

           STEPS TO MEDITATION :

              Are you curious to know the steps/actions - that lead to meditation?;

Good news is that, you need not do anything – meditation is not an act.

             Step 1: Relax

             Step 2: Relax more

Step 3: Relax more and more…

             Meditation happens with effortlessness.

Relax in the meditative state – you’ll agree it’s valuable and precious.

IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD ...AND THE WORD WAS GOD..

THOU ART THAT

Your  Best Speech

…is the Poetry that emanates from your heart

Your Best Poetry

…is the Song that moves the hardest heart

Your Best Song

…is the Prayer that you dedicate to the Lord

Your Best Prayer

…is the  Meditation in which wordless Silence prevails

Your best Meditation

…is the Stillness Divine in which you are and yet are not

And, what is Stillness Divine..

It is the stillness in which -
You are and yet, you are not
You are your own and only witness
                                 You dissolve yourself so totally
And the dissolution becomes your Liberation.

                                 *  *  *

My dear reader

In the beginning was the word, the word was with God, and the word was GOD....

God created the animal and gave it the sound.

God created the man and gave him the word.

The word became man's passage to man....

And when the word dies..His Grace appears…

Dear Reader,

Be therefore always alive in every word of you.

Turn your every word into poetry and let the poetry flow like the song beautiful coming from the core of your heart.

Let the song adorn the lord like a prayer, for, that is the best purpose of your song.

Let the prayer take you smoothly, into the deepest layers of meditation. There, total stillness prevails.

That verily, is the purpose of meditation.

There is nothing for you to ask the lord in meditation. The lord is ever willing to see you and meet you with all his grace, in your deepest meditation.

The lord does not answer your loudest prayers. These are heard and answered by another man.

All sounds and all words die down in meditation, which is your best possible offer to the Lord..

You become your only witness - a witness to your own dissolution.

When the EGO, that is you, dissolves, the divine grace descends into you.

You must be ready for receiving the grace. The sages say, don't even wait. Just be available. The lord's grace will flow in.

Let your meditation carry you into the beautiful, divine stillness of the universe. When the divine grace flows in, there is no more prayer; no more asking; no more giving; all is silence.

The silence makes you understand how all that moves perishes. And, all that perishes is reborn.

The unmoving is the divine, that moves the universe.

May you be part of that divine awareness, that moves the whole universe.

In that awareness, you are and yet, you aren't.

Because, thou art that...

Thath thvam asi.... (thou art that...)

WORDS OF WISDOM (QUOTABLE QUOTES) ON YOGA

YOGA

MANY THINGS FOR MANY PEOPLE

(words of wisdom)

Yoga existed in India from the most ancient times. Yogic path is always considered the best, for achieving the pinnacle of happiness on earth and beyond. This Post contains some great words of wisdom on Yoga, from several masters, below the description that follows now.
Lord Krishna enunciated ALL THE AVAILABLE PATHS OF YOGA for the first time, in a most scientific manner, intelligible to the general masses, in his Bhagavad Gita. The greatness of GITA is that it is shorn of most of the Scientific Jargon of YOGA processes and is in layman's language. It was in fact taught by Krishna to a layman for yoga, like Arjuna.
The next most important work on Yoga – is Sage Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, or the Ashtanga Yoga Path, which prescribes 8 steps – Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi. Many Great Gurus have taught Yoga in the past and present - on the lines of Ashtanga Yoga Path given by Patanjali.
Yama and Niyama are prescriptions for cleanliness and purity of the body and mind. Yoga Asana is the next step of importance. Though Patanjali does not elaborate on Asana, this has always been a great science in itself - for ensuring the good health, physical and mental, of the aspirant.
Next to it, the aspirant is taught Pranayma or control of breath. Hatha yoga has developed from Yoga Asana and Pranayama primarily.
Pratyahara (withdrawal of senses) and Dharana ( concentration on single objects ) are the next steps.
Meditation or Dhyana is a very important next step.
Today there is a great emphasis all over the world, on the immense physical and mental health benefits that Asana, pranayama and Dhyana give us. This method of teaching also (perhaps) takes into account Lord Krishna’s and Patanjali's comforting words that whatever little you do in Yoga, its benefits will reach you.
There are great Yoga masters today who are spreading Yoga across the whole world. They are giving to each what he can take. The hope is that, the interest will deepen further and they will achieve great heights of Samadhi also some day.
Some schools are meticulous. They follow the GURUKUL system, in which, the aspirant has to be under the guidance of the GURU, for many years, in his Ashram (a sort of residential school).
Even though this is not practicable for many, It must be emphasized that all steps of Yoga must be learnt under a competent Guru first and then practiced throughout life. No one must attempt to learn through other media. This is especially important.
I am giving below a few words of wisdom on Yoga from Great masters. It will be followed up further with more such Posts on the science of Yoga.

WORDS OF WISDOM ON YOGA

·        Yoga is the suspension of all the functions of the mind.(Patanjali)

·       Yoga is that state of Absolute Peace wherein there is neither imagination nor thought. Yoga is control of mind and its modifications (Swami Sivananda)

·        Equanimity is Yoga.

·        The four paths of Yoga are : the path of work (Karma-Yoga), the path of devotion or love (Bhakti-Yoga), the path of psychic control (Raja-Yoga) and the path of self-analysis and knowledge (Jnana-Yoga). (Bhagavad Gita).

·        A person is said to achieve Yoga or union with the self within, when the subdued mind becomes free of desires and is resident in the self totally. (Bhagavad Gita).

·        Yoga destroys sorrow, in that aspirant, who is moderate in his diet, his recreation, his working habits, sleep, waking up and all other walks of life. Moderation is the key of the life of a yoga. Yoga is thus not possible for one who eats too much, or too little, who sleeps too much, or who sleeps too less. (Bhagavad Gita)

·        Yoga is not possible unless mind is disciplined and controlled (Bhagavad Gita).

·        In yoga, whatever little or more effort the aspirant puts in, is never lost to him. Practice of yoga protects the aspirant from all fears.(Bhagavad Gita)

·        Work done with selfish motives is not karma Yoga. Selfless work is, indeed Karma Yoga.(Bhagavad Gita)

·         Undisturbed calmness of mind is attained by cultivating friendliness toward the happy, compassion for the unhappy, delight in the virtuous, and indifference toward the wicked. ( Patanjali)

·        Anyone who practices can obtain success in yoga but not one who is lazy Constant practice alone is the secret of success. (Hatha Yoga Pradipika)
·        When the breath wanders the mind also is unsteady.  But when the breath is calmed the mind too will be still, and the yogi achieves long life. Therefore, one should learn to control the breath. (Hatha Yoga Pradipika).
·        The body is your temple. Keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside in it. (B.K.S.IYENGAR)

  •     Yoga and Dhyana are scientific tools which help you to transcend the limitations of your body and mind and experience the true quality of who you are (Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev)

  •    Question : I Cannot find enough time to Meditate;Sri Sri Ravishankar : Meditation will give you more time.
