LATEST QUOTES
FROM

SRI SRI RAVISHANKAR
(ART OF LIVING)

When Great Gurus speak, we must listen. Whatever they say – benefits humanity in many ways. Sri Sri Ravishankar has already made his mark in several countries. Universal Love is the First step towards salvation. This message of Guruji can be seen in many of his speeches, and quotable quotes. This Blog has carried his earlier quotes too – and this is the latest addition to them.
Read and enjoy :

Ø  If you manipulate words, it is a lie.
If you play on words, it is a joke.
If you rely on words, it is ignorance but
if you transcend words, it is wisdom.

Ø  Surrender is not submission. What is the meaning of surrender? It is realizing that everywhere, everything belongs to the Divine already - “I” am not in control. And with this realization comes a deep relaxation, a feeling of trust and being at home. Why is there so much fear about surrender; you think you will lose something? I tell you, you will gain in the kingdom of world and heaven.

Ø  Have one dream for yourself and one dream for the world. And if both of them are the same, that is the best! But even if they are not, it is ok. Just see that they are not in conflict with each other.

Ø  When the mind is happy, it expands and time seems too short. When the mind is unhappy, it contracts and time seems too long. When the mind is in equanimity, it transcends time.

Ø  For external beauty, you put on things; for real beauty, you have to drop all things. For external beauty you have to have make-up; for real beauty you only have to realize that you are already made up.

Ø  Q: What is the difference between ordinary and extraordinary people?
Sri Sri: Extraordinary people think they are very ordinary.

Ø  When all doors are shut and you have nowhere to go, that is when you go within. Every crisis is an opportunity and you are the beginning.

Ø  Life teaches you the art of letting go in every event. When you have learnt to let go, you will be joyful and as you start being joyful, more will be given to you.

Ø  Q: Dear Gurudev, when and how can I achieve the ultimate bliss?
Sri Sri: No chance. No way. Forget about it. Are you ready to forget it? Then you got it NOW.

Ø  Whosoever we fall in love with, we are really falling in love with ourselves.

Ø  When words touch your intellect, it gives you a feeling of knowing it all. You know one line but if you know it through intellect, you will speak ten. But when words touch your heart, there is an exclamation, something is kindled; a wave or a fountain arises and then there is no need for any words.

Ø  Confusion is thinking that more joy would come from the other way, when you have already chosen one way. Whichever you choose, you think the other will give you more joy. Joy is not going to be better from anything. You are the source of Joy.

Ø  I tell you, deep inside you is a fountain of bliss, a fountain of joy. Deep inside, your center core is truth, light, love; there is no guilt there, there is no fear there.

Ø  Don't wait for someone to bring you flowers. Plant your own garden and decorate your own soul.

Ø  Harmony in sound is music.
Harmony in movement is dance.
Harmony in mind is meditation.
Harmony in life is celebration!

Ø  The very joy of giving love is so much that it does not matter who is at the receiving end. When this space comes into your being, then you will go on giving love to everybody and everything - not only human beings but to animals, to trees, to distant stars. Love can be transferred to the farthest star by just your loving look, to a tree just by your touch. It can be conveyed in absolute silence, without a single word.

Ø  'If he can do it, why not me?', this thought separates you from people and causes commotion; complications arise, jealousy arises. You start to show off and lose your naturalness. Drop all complications, don't show off. Fulfillment is so beautiful. The one who is satisfied even before their desires are fulfilled, knowing that all their needs are taken care of, peace and joy will be given to that person.

Ø  When you rejoice in beauty, the entire creation rejoices with you. The very purpose of so much variety in creation is to somehow bring you back to yourself - that you are beautiful, that you are beauty!

Ø  Love is at its peak when no effort is made, whatsoever, to express it at all. When you don’t try to express it in so many words, then your whole being speaks that love. I am not saying you should not express it - sometimes; otherwise you may burst! I’m just telling you there is a beauty in not making effort to express it.

Ø  See people beyond their expressions. What a person expresses is not what they're all about. There is a lot of unexpressed love in each life. Just recognizing this, your heart expands; then, you’ll never be stuck with what someone says or does.

Ø  Q: How do I prepare myself to achieve success in life?
Sri Sri: Smart work and hard work. Be open to new ideas and most importantly, be relaxed deep within.

Ø  Q: These days everybody is on face book. Is God too on face book?
Sri Sri: Every face is a book of God.

Ø  Walk lightly on this planet and yet leave such a footprint that cannot be erased for thousands of years!

Ø  If you are loving then you are welcomed everywhere in the world. If you can feel and be one with people anywhere you go, then people are ready to do anything for you.

Ø  I know life is a game. You know life is a game. Let's play!!

Ø  Q: It is said that when we take one step towards the Guru, he takes ten towards us. If we take one step backwards, what does he do?
Sri Sri: Wait for you to take a step forward.

Ø  When you are confused, your words don’t have an impact. The clearer your mind is, the more powerful your words get. The words of those who are content have great power.

Ø  Be like water. When there are stones on the path of water, what does it do? It rises above the stones and flows. Similarly, obstacles are there in life. Rise above obstacles and move through them. Have patience and flow over them.

Ø  Everyone wants to be successful in life, but without knowing what success is. What are the signs of success? Just having a lot of money? The sign of success is overwhelming joy, confidence, compassion, generosity and a smile that none can snatch away.

Ø  Always remember this: Nature will never confront you with a problem you cannot solve. You already have the answer, that is why the question appears in front of you.

Ø  Q: It is said that winners stand alone. Is it really winning if you stand alone at the top?
Sri Sri: First of all, take this concept of top and bottom out of your mind. Every place is unique. If someone has kept you on the top then it is due to the efforts of all those who are at the bottom. If you happen to be on the top, be totally humble. The more you go up, the more humble you become. Humility is the sign of success. When there is humility, there are no obstacles.

With Greetings & Best wishes

THUS SPAKE - THE DALAI LAMA - 50 QUOTES

THUS SPAKE
THE DALAI LAMA

I received these sayings of ‘The Dalai Lama’ through the News letter of “The Speaking Tree”,  of Time of India. We all know that the Dalai Lama is a lovable personality across the world.  His birth day is said to be  6th July. As you will find, his sayings are simple, straight forward and come from the core of his heart. There is nothing much of religion in them – but only essential humanism. But then, religion itself must emanate from such humanism only.
I do hope readers will love these sayings.

1.  Despite the superficial differences between us, we need to have a sense that all 7 billion human beings belong to one human family.
2.  What we do need to do is to find ways to incorporate advice about warm-heartedness into our education system.
3.  When we develop care and concern by thinking of others not as ‘them’ but ‘us’, there is no room for bullying, exploitation or deceit.
4.  Genuine peace is based on inner peace, because you cannot build peace on the basis of anger.
5.  Our real guide is our own mind, our sense of reason.
6.  We naturally have self-interest, but it should be wise rather than foolish self-interest by taking others' needs into account as well as ours.
7.  I feel that each of us has the potential to make some contribution, and together, working with a clear aim, we can change our world.
8.  Human happiness depends on taking others into account.
9.  If we make consistent effort, based on proper education, we can change the world.
10.             It is expressions of affection, rather than money and power, that attract real friends.
11.             We need to strengthen such inner values as contentment, patience and tolerance, as well as compassion for others.
12.             Everybody wants a happy life and a peaceful mind, but we have to produce peace of mind through our own practice.
13.             Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, the actions of individuals can have far-reaching effects.
14.             Serving and helping others out of compassion is non-violence in action.
15.             Most of our problems are related to the mind, so we have to work to reduce our destructive emotions.
16.             If we can refrain from harming others in our everyday actions and words, we can start to give more serious attention to actively doing good.
17.             Placing all our hope on material development is clearly mistaken; the ultimate source of happiness is within us.
18.             If we can cultivate a concern for others, keeping in mind the oneness of humanity, we can build a more compassionate world.
19.             It’s unrealistic to think that the future of humanity can be achieved only on the basis of prayer. What we need is to take action.
20.             Concern for others’ well-being reduces fear and suspicion, prompting the openness and transparency that gives rise to trust and friendship.
21.             Anger, hatred and jealousy can never solve problems. Only affection, concern and respect can do that.
22.             Refraining from harm - not out of fear, but out of concern for others, their well-being and out of respect - is non-violence.
23.             Whether we are happy or not depends on our attitude; compassion, for instance, leads to a calmer mind.
24.             Education is the way to achieve far-reaching results; it is the proper way to promote compassion and tolerance in society.
25.             Healthy, happy families and a healthy peaceful nation are dependent on warm-heartedness.
26.             The challenge today is to convince people of the value of truth, honesty, compassion and a concern for others.
27.             To make this a century of dialogue, we need to find ways to promote a greater awareness of the oneness of humanity.
28.             It is vital that when educating our children’s brains, we do not neglect to educate their hearts by nurturing their compassionate nature.
29.             If you are honest, truthful, and transparent, people trust you. If people trust you, you have no grounds for fear, suspicion or jealousy.
30.             Just as we encourage physical hygiene to preserve our health, we also need a sense of emotional or mental hygiene too.
31.             We live in a world in which we are dependent on others; we cannot expect to fulfill our goals while disregarding others’ needs.
32.             We forget that despite the superficial differences between us, people are equal in their basic wish for peace and happiness.
33.             People think of animals as if they were vegetables, and that is not right. We have to change the way people think about animals. I encourage the Tibetan people and all people to move toward a vegetarian diet that doesn’t cause suffering.
34.             Sex offers fleeting satisfaction and leads to trouble later, while chastity offers a better life and more independence, more freedom. Problems arising from conjugal life sometimes even lead to suicide or murder...
35.             Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.
36.             Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.
37.             Old friends pass away, new friends appear. It is just like the days. An old day passes, a new day arrives. The important thing is to make it meaningful: a meaningful friend or a meaningful day.
38.             This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart, is our temple. The philosophy is kindness.
39.             Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.
40.             All major religious traditions carry basically the same message - love, compassion and forgiveness. The important thing is that they should be part of our daily lives.
41.             When you are discontent, you always want more, more, more. Your desire can never be satisfied. But when you practice contentment, you can say to yourself: Oh yes. I already have everything that I really need.
42.             The purpose of our lives is to be happy.
43.             In the practice of tolerance, one's enemy is the best teacher.
44.             We can live without religion and meditation, but we cannot survive without human affection.
45.             When you practice gratefulness, there is a sense of respect toward others.
46.             The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness.
47.             If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.
48.             It is important to consider others at least as important as ourselves. This is the essence of spirituality.
49.             A number of people have said to me, after hearing my thinking, that their mind becomes much more happier, .... I sure hope fellow seekers feel totally refreshed, like a walk in the rain, after this talk with the adorable and simple spiritual leader...
50.             Do not let the behaviour of others destroy your inner peace.
