However some more explanation is needed here.

YOGA is defined in different ways - depending on the context. Patanjali, for example, defines Yoga as "Chitta vritti Nirodha" - in the context of his Yoga Sutras.

Yoga is actually the joining of You with Your own self. We are wandering away from ourself - all the time. If we can remain with / within our own self - lots of things happen in us. This process is Yoga. This UNION can be achieved through Jnana Yoga, Dhyana Yoga, Karma Yoga and Bhakti Yoga. 4 Paths for same /similar purpose.

When this UNION happens, a huge wisdom explodes in us. we destroy our IGNORANCE / Maya in total and settle in our true self - and this is called SATH- CHITH -ANANDA - BRAHMAN.

Patanjali calls this as kaivalya.

Coming back to this particular verse - YOGA , and not Karma, is defined here.

Karma simply means action. What actions one can / must perform, what are its results are exhaustively detailed in Karma Yoga chapter of Gita and elsewhere. Karma is of 3 types. (1) That which is obligatory (2) That which is recommended (3) That which must be avoided.

The obligatory and recommended Karmas only come within the scope of definition of Karma Yoga. As you rightly said - Nishiddha Karma ,however wonderfully performed, is not Yoga.

Krishna eulogized EXCELLENCE in performance of one's DUTY - much better than modern day Management theorists. Throughout Mahabharat, this EXCELLENCE was specifically extolled.

In such excellent performance of either obligatory or recommended duties - union of the wandering self with the real self happens very easily.

There is no more the singer, but only the song; There is no more the dancer, but only the dance; there is not more sculptor, but only the sculpture - when this EXCELLENCE happens.

I hope, this brief description explains this definition.V VIJAYAMOHANhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18074555365661801354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3233446649700083066.post-81471280218556814752012-09-27T01:55:03.825-07:002012-09-27T01:55:03.825-07:00sir with due respect let me suggest something. Even a good theif performs his work with great skill but it is not yoga..... So work done as yoga is great skill..Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3233446649700083066.post-84393128870996248382012-06-25T01:21:34.732-07:002012-06-25T01:21:34.732-07:00Thanks for your comment.
